Description

Circle of Dúir

Dúir is the druidic term for the natural world. It summarizes the nature of Aeriador including the oceans, the skies, the plant and animal life, and even includes the various fey creatures the dwell here. It is a word that encompasses the natural balance and the magical nature of the world. It is not actually a druidic word, but it is the word given to Nature and the Balance by Finduilen at the beginning of time. Few actually know this information (Knowledge Nature or Religion check, DC 25). The Druids of Dúir have existed for as long as can be remembered, and perhaps longer.

There also exists a great forest in the Northern Continent called The Great Dúirwood. Some believe the Druids of Dúir get their name from this forest, but the truth is the forest was named by Finduilen after the Druids of Dúir were established, and the forest bears it's name from them. The Great Dúirwood forest is one of the older forests of Aeriador and has a mixture of deciduous and coniferous trees.

The Druids of Dúir are governed by the typical druidic heirarchy with a single Grand Druid (Drd 15) overseeing all of Aeriador. Below the Grand Druid are the Great Druids. There are a number of Great Druids (Drd 14) throughout Aeriador, with several Great Druids overseeing their own "Circle" within each continent. The Circles a Great Druid oversees is a region of a continent that is both geographically and politically bounded. Each Circle is then broken up further into three areas overseen by an Archdruid, a druid of 13th level. Each Archdruid will have three druids of 12th level holding the rank of Druid subordinate to them to assist in overseeing the Circle. Each Druid will be assigned a "Grove" to tend. The grove could be centered on a spring or waterfall, or even on a village or town. Some Druids may even have authority over a small city within their Archdruids druid Circle . Usually large cities are the responsibility of an Archdruid, cities like Gondolin and Grey Havens. Each Druid is responsible for tending to their grove and mentoring the Initiates and Ovates below them.

The Druids of Dúir follow the Old Faith and are closely aligned with the Rangers of the North and the Bards of the Old Lore, and of all bardic colleges of Annun, they are closest to the Fochlucan College.

Druids who have achieved the rank of Initiates of the First Circle in the Druids of Dúir automatically gain the feat Green Faith Acolyte for free.

Druids in the following Prestige Classes gain ranks within the Druids of Dúir by adding their prestige class level with their druid level

Druids with the Fochlucan Lyrist or Fochlucan Scholar prestige classes do not gain ranks within the Druids of Dúir, but their reputation as defenders of the faith is well regarded and they are treated as having an honorary rank of Initiate of the 9th Circle within the Circle of Dúir. This is mostly effective when those individuals act on behalf of the Circle as emissaries or diplomats, but outside of the Circle is all but ignored.
