Background

Ithryn Emrais, Tel'Danien Fey'ri (half-elven noble fey (tiefling), of elf, human, and maia blood)
(Druid 16 / Ranger 16 / Bard 16 / Mythic Tier 10 (Hierophant / Champion), ECL 18, CR 17 + Mythic = CR 20+
Str 34, Dex 22, Con 24, Int 22, Wis 28, Cha 21, App 24
Druidic Rank/Title: Archdruid
Shadoweir: High Ranger
Birth: SA 496, in Celwynvian. (currently 432 years old)
Lineage: 64% Silver Elf / 17.25% Gold Elf / 12.5% Danemar Human / 6.25% Demonic Maia
**Note:  The closest Middle-Earth analog of Danemar are the Dunedain, descendants of the Numenoreans.
Appearance: Ithryn looks like a Silver elf of full Elven heritage to nearly all non-elves. To elves, he appears as of Silver elven descent, but does not necessarily appear as a 'half-elf' . Due to his lineage and survivorship in the line of Earmin, he is called Tel'Danien, or half-elven. He is exceptionally handsome with an appearance of 20. This is due partly to his elven lineage and partly to his Maiar, though demonic, lineage.  His sister Indis is among the most beautiful of elves of the Second Age of Aeriador (Cha 24, App 24).

Family: Ithryn has a long and illustrious lineage, dipping into many of the noble and royal families of the Silver elves and Gold elves, and even into the Houses of Men. The women of his family often kept and updated the family register and documents containing stories and ancestry records. When his mother, Elwing, was young, she and her mother, Idril, spent many years updating the records and drawing an accurate family tree. Because his mother and grandmother kept such good records, Ithryn and Indis have traced their ancestry back thousands of years. Ithryn spent years going through the books and documents his mother kept in her library, and he has roughly determined that he and his sister have the following lineage: 64% Silver Elf, 18% Gold Elf, 12% Danemar Human, and 6% Demonic Maia, or roughly 82% elven, 12% human, and 6% celestial. Documented on an ancient scroll of the Houses of the Gold Elves and Silver Elves, the family and genealogy of the House of Ingwen and the House of Galadhon showing the House lineages to Ithryn and Indis.

It is knowable that Ithryn and Indis are of the Fey'ri line of Earmin, the third great celestial bloodline of Aeriador. For those who have studied genealogy of elven families, nobility and / or history (Knowledge (Nobility) / Knowledge (History)), or have specifically studied the three great celestial bloodlines, they can, with effort and a little research, determine that both Ithryn and Indis are of the line of Earmin, and therefore share in a Maiar bloodline.  The family lines of the three Maiar bloodlines are well known to sages, scholars, and elves of noble descent.

All elves of nobility and royalty know of the Three Great Maia Bloodlines and who are the living descendants of those three bloodlines. As of SA 928 (present day), only Elwing, Ithryn, and Indis, are living descendants of the line of Earmin.

Over the years, the runes of ancient abyssal continued to appear on Ithryn's back. They were small and blood red, and they told a story unknown to all but the abyss. His mother was concerned, and heeding the wisdom of Caldorin, they decided to seek out the advice and knowledge of a great Archdruid of Henneth Annun. Elwing, Caldorin, and Ithryn traveled to Henneth Annun to find his parent's longtime friend, the Archdruid Walgar Oakleaf.  Walgar was renowned for his wisdom, empathetic connection to people, and his ability to heal.  He was perhaps one of the greatest healers of Henneth Annun at the time. After their meeting, Walgar asked Elwing if she would grant him permission to bring their son to the Cabal of Hierophants. Archdruid Walgar explained to her that the Hierophants were some of the most powerful and wisest druids in all of Aeriador, and surely they will know how to help Ithryn. Elwing and Caldorin agreed.

The family, along with the Archdruid Walgar, traveled to the Isle of Cel, west of Henneth Annun. There they met with the leaders of the Cabal, Myrddin the Ancient, Pheszeltan the Wise, and Shadowmoon the Mystical. Caldorin and Elwing beseeched Myrddin to help, and explained how Ithryn came into the world. The three leaders of the Cabal spoke words of comfort to Caldorin and Elwing, and said they will consider his fate through the night and give them their answer in the morning. The next morning, Shadowmoon visited the family and explained to them that Ithryn should stay at the Isle of Cel for training and protection.  Elwing and Caldorin agreed with Shadowmoon, and they decided to spend the month there with Ithryn before returning to Asmeril. Myrddin, the wisest of the Hierophants, knew well enough the problems that Ithryn's heritage could cause him later in life and it was his recommendation that Ithryn train as a druid far from civilization where he can grow in power and knowledge of the Old Faith and Old Lore, under the guidance of those with the power to protect him. Caldorin and Elwing were honored the Cabal would train their son. Therefore, in the spring of SA 865, Caldorin and Elwing departed the Isle of Cel and Ithryn began his training.

During his early training, Ithryn was an Ovate within the Order and did many of the harder and more cumbersome tasks. He also did much traveling for the Hierophants. He was never alone as there were several other druids, clerics, rangers, and bards that were his companions during these usually diplomatic or logistic missions. Myrddin had connections and allies all over Aeriador, and he would send a groups of druids and rangers, often accompanied by a bard, by horseback to various locations throughout the northern continent. It was on one of those missions that Ithryn found himself at the Fochlucan College of Bards, just outside of Oakenway, as an envoy for the Druids of Duir. There he met Elenyë Neylis "Tyrea", an aspiring bard of the college. They talked often during his visit and went on long walks in the forests around the College. Ithryn only spent a week there, but his memory of Tyrea was ever at the forefront of his mind. During his time at the College, one of the Yew Masters heard Ithryn singing and suggested to Ithryn that he consider the path of the Bard. Ithryn just smiled and said, "my life, it seems, has already been fated to the forests."

On their return journey to the Isle of Cel, the druidic envoy decided to travel north and visit the druid grove at Corsadocks, a three day journey by horseback. From there they returned to Gondolan and reported their findings to Walgar, the Archdruid of Henneth Annun, and remained in Gondolan for seven days. While in Gondolan, Ithryn stayed at the Ranger's Respite, a popular inn and tavern frequented by the Rangers of the North and other folks who survive in the forests of Henneth Annun.

Eventually, the envoy, with the blessing of the Archdruid, returned to the Isle of Cel. There Ithryn continued his training under the tutelage of Shadowmoon and Pheszeltan. Pheszeltan became his primary instructor in the ways of nature, Shadowmoon his primary instructor in the ways of magic. Shadowmoon was a beautiful Sylvan elf druid of incredible power, graceful and always eloquently spoken. Over the years, Ithryn grew to love her, though he would not say this to her, but she already knew.

In all, Ithryn spent over 60 years under the tutelage of the Hierophants, the longest of any of their students. Not because Ithryn was a slow learner, he was actually a gifted student, but because of his heritage. The Cabal was reluctant to let Ithryn leave the Isle of Cel permanently, though he had been on dozens of journeys to Henneth Annun for various missions, often times spending 4 to 6 months at a time away from the Cabal. When his missions took him to the mainland, he would always use his second name, Emrais, as a way to mask his identity. And always on his visits he would find himself drawn to the Fochlucan College and Tyrea Neylis. Ithryn spent many nights with Tyrea, and he brought her to Gondolan on several occasions as a bardic envoy for the Fochlucan College to the Druids of Duir. As a Lyrist of the College, Tyrea was trained as a Druid under the Druids of Duir and had a special relationship with them. If they ever needed a bard of the College, they often went first to her. Ithryn took advantage of that relationship to grow closer to Tyrea, and for decades the two of them would represent both the Fochlucan College and the Druids of Duir on various diplomatic missions or visitations.

Tyrea was a beautiful, tall, auburn-haired Gold elf, and it wasn't long before Ithryn had fallen in love with her, and she with him. One night, under the Moons of Selene and the stars of the night, Ithryn expressed his love to Tyrea. In the month of Eleint during the Autumn Equinox of SA 901, Ithryn gave her a ring of citrine gems and golden wood as a promise to always return. She wears the ring to this day.

When he wasn't spending time in Henneth Annun with Tyrea, he would spend his time communing with nature, forests, the oceans, and the weather. He would often go out into the forests of Cel to spend time amongst the flora and fauna of nature and he would sing amongst the trees and to the animals. He was a talented singer and becoming quite good in no-small-part due to the instruction of Shadowmoon who had the voice of a song bird and was considered a great singer. At times, Ithryn would travel to the West Wold and bring messages from the Cabal to Pheszeltan's friend Pallando Rómestámo, who lived in a small cottage in the West Wold near a shrine to Selene. Pallando was also a member of the Cabal of Hierophants, but chose to dwell in the highlands of the West Wolds where he tends to one of the largest stone henges in Aeriador dedicated to Selene. It was during his travels for Myrddin that Ithryn also became friends with Pallando's son Morinehtar.  Morinehtar was both a druid and ranger and part of a small group of woodland knights of Meilikki called Shadoweir. Morinehtar showed Ithryn the path of the Shadoweir and introduced him to several of the Rangers of the North, rangers who served Meilikki. At times, Ithryn would spend months in training with the Rangers of the North and Morinehtar learning what it means to be a knight of the forests and to serve Meilikki. On one occasion, while he and Morinehtar were traveling through the woods south of the West Wold, Ithryn was sure he witnessed a beautiful drow female dancing naked in the moonlight, and wielding a long silver sword in her perfect dance.

One day Ithryn's mother and father arrived at the Isle of Cel, and they brought Tyrea Neylis with them. Ithryn's father had recently been promoted to Archdruid of Asmeril and they were now there to promote Ithryn. Ithryn was to be promoted to Initiate of the 1st Circle, the first in the Order of the Initiates and a true priest of nature. Caldorin and the Hierophants Shadowmoon and Phezeltan came together with Ithryn and they performed the rite of ascension to Initiate of the 1st Circle. Morinehtar was there too, and a small group of the Rangers of the North. After Ithryn performed his rite of ascension to Druid Initiate, Morinehtar indoctrinated Ithryn into the Rangers and he became a Quester in the Shadoweir, the first rank of the mysterious rangers. Indoctrination into the Rangers involves saying his oath, loud shouting sometimes in the form of song, and significant amounts of ale. That night, Ithryn celebrated well with his father, Tyrea, Morinehtar and his friends in the rangers. While Tyrea and Ithryn were walking alone, Ithryn told her how happy he was she was able to come to the Isel of Cel with his parents, and he expressed his love for her again and told her she should always wait for him.

Ithryn, Tyrea, and his family, left the Isle of Cel and traveled back to Henneth Annun. Caldorin and Elwing left Henneth Annun to return to Asmeril, and Caldorin embraced Ithryn for the last time.

In Henneth Annun, Ithryn joined with the Druids of Duir as a new Initiate and was assigned to the Oaken Grove near the town of Oakenway and the Fochlucan College of bards. He had specifically requested to be near the College to be close to Tyrea. He spent three years at the Oaken Grove tending it, learning from the more senior initiates, and growing in his knowledge and skill as a druid.

One spring day in SA 920 while Ithryn and Tyrea were sitting near a stream in the forest, the Archdruid Walgar Oakleaf approached them. Ithryn could sense his distress and worry as he approached, and he sensed his great sadness. Walgar told Ithryn his father had died while on an important mission for the Druids in the Grey Mountains. Walgar explained that his father was killed protecting the rest of the party from a mighty demon, and because of Caldorin's sacrifice, the others were able to escape and return safely. Tyrea, knowing all too well the pain of losing a father, comforted Ithryn in this time, and Ithryn mourned his father for 30 days.

The next year Elwing returned to Celwynvian and to her old home and Ithryn remained in Henneth Annun always staying near to the Fochlucan College and Tyrea. He would patrol the forests in the name of both the Druids of Duir and the Shadoweir and his abilities as both a Ranger and Druid progressed. His path would often take him back to the Fochlucan College where he would spend time with Tyrea walking outside and talking long into the night. His heart was now divided for he loved both Tyrea Neylis and Shadowmoon Crystalembers. But his love for Tyrea grew and Shadowmoon was so far away. On his last visit to the Fochlucan College, the resident Yew Master Noelin, knowing of Ithryn's skill in both song and string, formally admitted him into the College. Ithryn had officially become a bard. In SA 923 Ithryn finally said goodbye to Tyrea and the College as well as his ranger companions and traveled back to the Isle of Cel at the request of Phezeltan who visited him on a night as a great grey owl. The owl explained to him that Shadowmoon had requested Ithryn return to Cel to complete his training and to assist the Hierophants in one final task.

In early SA 924 Ithryn arrived back on the Isle of Cel where he was greeted by Shadowmoon. She explained to him that his training was nearly complete and that she had been watching him grow into the man he had become, and she could see the man he will grow into and the potential he has to become a powerful and influential druid for Aeriador. Shadowmoon took Ithryn's hand in hers and leaned into him pressing her body into his and she said, "Go out into the world and become the greatest of druids in the land. And when you have fulfilled yourself in life, love, and adventure, and after you have saved the world, return to the Isle of Cel, and to me. I have lived for more than two thousand years searching for the one. I have loved, and I have lost love. You are young, but you have a fire inside you that cannot be quenched, and your spirit is a spirit that is both ancient and youthful. I have had the patience of more than 20 human lifetimes, I can wait a bit longer."  With that she kissed Ithryn and walked away, leaving him confused and torn. Three years pass and Shadowmoon approached Ithryn and said Finduilen and Pheszeltan had gone to help a friend and that he was to travel to Sandpoint and find the female elf Aerena Nightstar. Knowing she would likely not see Ithryn for several years, she took his hand in hers one last time. She looked him in the eyes with a deep and knowing look, and said, "Aerena Nightstar is an important person in Aeriador, perhaps even the most important, and the other half of the puzzle that Finduilën and Pheszeltan have been working to solve. Your mission is to find her and protect her, help her to recover her memories which have mysteriously vanished. Finduilen and Phezeltan will meet you in one years time in the small town of Oakenway. Use your connections and influence to aid your companions as best you can, but keep your heritage to yourself, tell no one. You are a simple half-elven druid who dabbles in music. Do not speak of the Hierophants and especially do not speak of Finduilen. The fate of Aeriador may literally lay in your hands. If problems arise, I will send word to you through Pallando or Syvis Silvermoon. In the most dire of situations, I may come to you myself. And finally Ithryn, do not forget me, even if you fall in love with that sensual red haired bard Tyrea, do not forget me." She kissed him and instantly turned herself into a songbird and flew away.  In SA 926, Ithryn traveled again to the Oaken Grove where he met Tyrea again. She had become a full bard at the Fochlucan College and was working to become a Fochlucan Lyrist. While Ithryn spent his time on the Isle of Cel, she had already been on several adventures for the College and advanced quickly. Ithryn and Tyrea spent a month together before he continued his travels to Sandpoint, and during that time they became very close. Their parting was not easy. But he never forgot Shadowmoon.

Ithryn arrived in Sandpoint from caravans that left from Oakenway, and he waited to find the elven female that Shadowmoon had told him about.

Already Ithryn and company have been on many adventures. They have defeated an incursion on the town of Sandpoint. Fought a priestess of Lamashtu. Battled undead, fought vampires, dealt with political intrigue, and are currently searching for lost memories of Aerena. Who or what extracted these memories from Aerena is not known, but they did so purposely and with intention, as the memories are stored in gems seemingly spread across all of Aeriador. Aerena has discovered she can find the gems by following their "pull". Now we seek the gems and Ithryn waits for further instructions from his mentors and friends. He only shares with the others what he needs to and keeps the rest hidden.

After finding one gem with a remnant of the memories of Aerena, Ithryn and company travel to Ravaryn where they will then join a caravan and make the long and dangerous quest across the deadly desert to Alynthia. This is where Aerena says the next gem is pulling her to. We go with little preparations and trusting in the mental pull of her lost memories.

Our time aboard the ship, the Lusty Fey, has been an interesting one. We have only been on the boat for two days and already Aerena has lost more gold than most make in 10 years. Turin, the servant of Tyr and outstanding warrior, has lost his mind and entered into what seemed like a drinking competition with Aerena during our last gambling session. After losing a prodigious amount of gold he stumbled back to his room where Aerena went to comfort him, and who knows what else. I don't have the best ears, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one hearing some strange noises coming from Turin's room, and the emotions I detected coming from Turin's room were... well, best not to write these kinds of things down in a journal.

Last night we were attacked by several sea creatures. I am no expert in the sea and do not know what those beasts were, but I intend to find out. Fortunately, our numbers were greater and we easily defeated the creatures.
