**Shadow Owls of Oaken Grove**
Description
The Shadow Owls of Oaken Grove, or just The Shadow Owls, was a secret society with members from all branches of life in Aeriador, from druids, bards, and rangers, to wizards, thieves, spies, and paladins. Powerful members come from prominent political and noble backgrounds while other members proved themselves as powerful enemies of the Tower of Sorcere. The secret society was established long ago to fight against the spread of the Cult of Azazael, the Sorcerers of Shibaxet, and keep a wary eye on neighboring enemies at the Tower of Sorcere, the Dark Tower of Caizel, and the country of Rhune.
Membership was invitation only and it was not offered lightly.
The name is derived from the wisdom of the owl and it's vigilance as it stands guard at night keeping a watchful eye for those who could cause it harm or encroach into its territory. "Owl" for wisdom and clarity of thought, "Shadow" is for the subterfuge and secrecy of the order, and the "Oaken Grove" is the secret area near Oakenway where the order meets twice per year.
The three founding members belonged to the Fochlucan College, the Amrothian Society of the Wand, and the Druids of Duir. Other organizations have since added members for representation, but membership grows slowly as it is by invitation only and highly secret. There are now members from the Knights of Dane, the Church of Zemira, the Elder Enclave, the elves of the Elder Forest, and members of nobility from Henneth Annun, the Grey Haves, and Dol Amroth, all working together to stem the spread of evil rulers such as that from Rhune.
The Fochlucan College lays claim as the founding organization and therefore the leader of the Shadow Owls will always be the ranking member from the Fochlucan College.
New: As of SA 1611
The Shadow Owls, as they existed in SA 929, is mostly extinct. The organization nearly died by around 1200 SA, but the Lady Tyrea revived it as an arm of the Lark and Lantern Society active in the area near to Gondolin and Oaken Grove.
