SELENE, Intermediate Deity (Divine Rank 13) of the Moons of Aeriador, Nature, Darkness, and the Grey Elves

Selene is the Neutral Good goddess of the Moons (Silmerana and Dugil), Nature (Flora & Fauna), Dreams, and Fate, as well as the primary goddess of druids for the Grey Elves in the Islands of Gelmar.

**A note on the Moons of Aeriador and the Grey Elves 

The Grey Elves reject Aerendyl/Azazael for his clear and obvious turn to evil. Amara is more elusive to them, but their suspicion of her over thousands of years has led to the belief that she has indeed fallen with him. There are no temples or monuments to Aerendyl or Amara in Gelmar, and the Grey Elves do not think of them. And this leads us to the Moons. The first and largest moon is named for Selene herself. They have given the moon the name Silmerana, a high elven word meaning "She who is like a shining jewel". The second, smaller but brighter moon, is known across Aeriador in various tongues as the Nightstar, named after Aerendyl himself. In most elven societies, this moon takes the high elven name of Elennómëa, "Star of the Night", and remembers the Creator in his good and elven form. This is also the name Aerendyl used himself and is recorded in ancient writings of the Creators. The Grey Elves of Gelmar have rejected this name and now call the moon Dugil, a lower elven and less formal form of the name Nightstar.

Selene was originally a powerful Empyreal Lord and Demigod of the moons of Aeriador, and is an aspect or extension of the Greek Goddess Selene and the Faerunian Goddess Selûne. 

After ascension of the Six to become the Gods of Aeriador, Selene also became a full goddess. She remains the goddess of the Grey Elves of Gelmar. She shares in the pantheon of druidic powers of Aeriador with Finduilen and Mielikki. Selene is also the consort of Finduilen.

Appearance

In her true form, she is always represented physically as a tall(6'6") slender Grey Elven female of exquisite beauty (Cha 33, Appearance 40). She is lithe and graceful, and her form is like that of a dancer. Selene almost always appears nude when in physical form except in the Court of the Taurethar. She rarely wears clothing, but will do so when it is appropriate, but almost never wears armor. However, she is often depicted as wearing light garments in artistic renderings for modesty within the public of Gelmar. The exception to this is in the temples to Selene, where the statues and paintings always portray her as nude. Like Eilistraee, Selene is lithe and fleet of foot, and she can run swiftly through the forests of Gelmar, faster than a deer. She loves to dance under the moonlight when night comes, and this tradition has been passed to her druidesses. Her long hair is silvery-blonde in color and extends to her lower back, her complexion is that of moon-kissed skin, and her eyes are bright silver-blue. Unlike Eilistraee, Selene does not dance with a sword, and she rarely carries any weapons on her save perhaps a staff. 

Selene is an Intermediate Deity of Aeriador and the consort of Finduilen. All of her priests are female druids, with one notable exception, and she is mostly served by the Grey Elves of Gelmar with few exceptions outside of Gelmar. Selene never allows a Druidess of Gelmar to progress beyond 14th level and she never grants spells above 7th level to her druidesses. The Great Druidess of Gelmar is her Chosen and receives 5 mythic tiers in Hierophant while she remains the Chosen of Selene.

There is one exception to these rules. Pallando is a Cleric of Selene and was the husband of Arvairë, a former Chosen of Selene and Great Druidess of Gelmar. Arvairë was slain by orcs in a raid on her camp, and Pallando swore by Selene that he would not rest until her death had been avenged. Pallando is the only male cleric of Selene in Aeriador, and the only person for which Selene will grant spells above 7th level.  

Her true origin is that she was created by AO, the Overlord of the Faerunian world, from shards of the essence of the Faerunian goddesses Selûne and Eilistraee. She was created to help bring balance, and in a moment of foresight by AO, to keep the spark of divinity of Eilistraee alive after her death.

Selene is the mother of Miriel, and the grand mother of Nienna.
