Background

(Silmarien) The Lady Shadowmoon NG Tel'Uinaen (Grey Elf), Female Druid 26/Hierophant 8, Chosen of the OlmentariNote: The Shadowmoon of Aeriador is a modified version of the Shadowmoon of the Forgotten Realms. Her origin is more complex than simply what is stated in her Forgotten Realms entry, however, her entry in the Forgotten Realms books and NPC stats are mostly the same. She has been modified to better fit the world of Aeriador.Shadowmoon is a Tel'Lasien (Green Elf) druid of Aeriador and one of the leaders of the Cabal of Hierophants. She is tall, standing over 6'3" and slender of build. She is exceptionally beautiful (App 26), lithe with high elven grace (Dex 26).&nbsp;Her skin is fair and she has long dark hair and bright, emerald-green eyes, and appears as a very young elven woman, similar to a human woman in her early 20's (directly from Faerunian description of Shadowmoon). Her personality is quiet and reserved, humble, and slow to anger. &nbsp;She seldom speaks, but when she does her words carry the wisdom of agelessness and the weight of her power. She is known for her patience and is an especially talented teacher of the druidic faith and arts, very much a reflection of her longevity in Aeriador. &nbsp;She has lived for more than 3800 years in Aeriador arriving in the year 6190 of the First Age at the request of Finduilen. With Finduilen and Pheszeltan, Shadowmoon helped to build and lead the druids of Aeriador for nearly 1000 years and has worked to help maintain and guide the druids since.&nbsp;<figure class="image"><img src="https://aeriador.com/static/images/Shadowmoon-Crystalembers-v2.webp" alt="https://aeriador.com/static/images/Shadowmoon-Crystalembers-v2.webp"><figcaption>Silmarien, Tel'Lasien Elf, Hierophant of the Cabal</figcaption></figure>In the Second Age of Aeriador, Shadowmoon trained a small group of talented druids called the Initiates of the Cabal, and personally trained Ithryn Emrais for over 70 years on the Isle of Cel. &nbsp;Shadowmoon was stricken with love at the first sight of Ithryn, and although he was younger than she, his wisdom and strength seemed far greater than his age would allow. She kept her feelings hidden and in check for many years. Ithryn too loved Shadowmoon but did not reveal his feelings for several years.&nbsp;After the year 929 of the Second Age, Ithryn and Shadowmoon wed and had seven children.In the Forgotten Realms, Shadowmoon is a very powerful druid (D22) and is one of the Chosen of Silvanus and Mielikki in Faerun. She is mythic and immortal. In Aeriador she is the Chosen of the Olmentari.<h3>From the text of Vilhon Reach - Dungeon Master's Reference (AD&amp;D Second Edition)</h3> The Lady Shadowmoon (D22) is something of an enigma in the Vilhon, indeed, in all of Faerûn. She has been called the Guardian of the Chondalwood and the Specter of the Past by those who have visited with her. She seldom speaks, but her words are held in high regard by all members of the Enclave, especially Shinthala (D30). Shadowmoon is a Sylvan Elf with copper-hued skin, about five feet tall, with emerald eyes and jet-black hair. Her features are gently sculpted and she is slender and lithe. She appears as a very young elf, similar to a human female in her early 20s.Her appearance as a powerful druid has stymied the most renowned sages of Faerûn; there is no other instance of an elf druid in recorded history. Her mysterious appearance is the source of her Specter of the Past nickname.While she does not speak of how she came to be an elf, the truth is that she was a human druid. While serving in the Chondalwood, she fell in love with an elf named Freiwin Crystalembers. Freiwin made the decision to escort his parents to Evermeet, and Shadowmoon planned to accompany them as far as possible. As they were leaving the Winterwood, however, they were attacked by goblins. Shadowmoon was killed in the resulting melee.She awoke in Evermeet, resurrected by order of the Queen herself. Apparently, the Queen had magically watched the battle and was&nbsp; impressed with how selflessly Shadowmoon had given her life to protect the family of her lover. So impressed, in fact, that Shadowmoon awoke as a Sylvan Elf.Whatever magic was used to revive Shadowmoon was unlike anything known by humankind. She stayed in Evermeet for a brief time and then&nbsp; returned to the Vilhon to safeguard the Retreat of the elves from the area.While Shadowmoon realizes that she was once human, she&nbsp; accepts that she is now an elf in service to the Queen. She feels that this service is best performed in her role as an Elder of the Emerald&nbsp; Enclave. From her current station, she does her best to make sure that the elves who leave on the Retreat do so because they feel it is time to&nbsp; go, not because they are forced out by humans.Silvanus's Granted Powers: Shadowmoon can plane shift and cast astral spell once each day.&nbsp; In addition, she can use any body of water as a scrying pool, with the same effects as that of a crystal ball with ESP and clairaudience. The&nbsp; visual power can be negated if the person being scried upon is not standing on the earth or in the water, in which case normal scrying&nbsp; counter-measures are effective. See her special abilities below.&nbsp;Shadowmoon travels to AeriadorNearly five years passed and in late 1490 DR, Shadowmoon's love, the Silver elf Freiwin Cyrstalembers, was killed by orcs while on a patrol for the Elder Circle. Shadowmoon grieved for a year after his death. In the year 1491 DR, the Hierophant druids Finduilen and Pheszeltan, longtime friends of Shadowmoon, asked her to help them with in a new world. Knowing the might of both Pheszeltan and Finduilen, Shadowmoon was intrigued and agreed. They brought her to the vast, rich new world Aeriador with it's tall, sharp mountains, lush forests and hills. Finduilen told her this new world, still in it's infancy, needed protectors. He explained to her how the mighty sorcerer Aerendyl created Aeriador and how long he labored at his task.&nbsp;She marveled at the skill of Aerendyl and his creation, running her hands over the tall grass and looking longingly out across the vast sea and forests. "A world created by an elf!" she exclaimed. "Truly, he will ascend to the heavens for such a deed!"&nbsp;Finduilen perked up, "he has ascended Lady Shadowmoon, but not how you may think. He has fallen into chaos and evil, corrupted by the Shard of Evil of the Abyss. Perhaps the source of all evil, if you will. He has been turned into a demon lord of terrible power, and rules both there and here. This is why I have brought you here, to aid me in protecting this world from the corruption of Aerendyl and the Abyss. If he has his way, this land and all that dwell here will slowly become one with the Abyss. I will not allow that, but I am not strong enough alone to hold him at bay. I need you! And we will need more allies to protect the balance of this world.&nbsp; Will you join me?" he said somewhat sheepishly. "I need someone stronger than me, and certainly more beautiful," he said with a smile.&nbsp;Shadowmoon gave him a wry smile, knowing that the power of Finduilen exceeded her own. "Finduilen, we have known each other for many years now, and you know that I have lost the love of my life. Perhaps you have seen, with a sight I do not have, the hole it has left in my heart. And perhaps you know exactly what will fill it. Although I love the world of Toril and the Emerald Enclave, this is what my heart has longed for. A world newly formed, as a child leaves her mothers womb. Aerendyl has left his child unattended and vulnerable, and I will help you in caring for it. My dear friend, you will not have to do this alone. I will be with you."Finduilen gave a sigh of relief. They walked along the tall grassy hill overlooking the seas of the west. Many things had not even been named at this time. Clouds formed overhead and it began to rain. Shadowmoon looked around in almost disbelief, "how big is this world, Finduilen?"&nbsp;"Shadowmoon, it's as big as Toril or Golarion, or the world of Oerth.&nbsp; Aeriador shares many similarities with those worlds as well, but there is a taint on this world that needs to be removed."&nbsp;Shadowmoon looked off into the distance, and a form approached emerging from the trees. A lithe, female form clad in dark leathers with a bow on her back and walking with a purpose through the tall grass. The female form had dark skin, and her hair was white as snow. It was Faeryl, friend of Finduilen, who approached.&nbsp; She bowed low to the lady Shadowmoon as she walked up to them. Faeryl, the drow female ranger was the greatest archer in Aeriador. Though not tall standing at just 5'4", she walked with confidence and grace that few could match. She was the shortest of the Six, but her height belied her true power. The Lady Shadowmoon towered over Faeryl, standing nearly as tall as the Lords Finduilen and Pheszeltan with her high boots. Faeryl looked up at the Lady Shadowmoon and smiled and then turned her attention to her friend."Finduilen, I have just come from the north and bring ill news. The Crevasse has widened and grown nearly double the length in the last seventy days. If we don't do something to stop it's growth soon, I fear it may consume all the world."Finduilen looked concerned, and then he turned to Shadowmoon and back to Faeryl, "Lady Faeryl, I present to you the Lady Shadowmoon of Toril. She has agreed to aid us and is a powerful force and influence on the natural world. She is a druid with no equal, and she is here to help us." Faeryl looked pleased and bowed again. "Welcome to Aeriador Lady Shadowmoon. We have much work to do."Pheszeltan and Shadowmoon looked at each other knowingly. Pheszeltan nodded to her and said, "I feel like all our lives have been in the saving and preservation of Toril... now we turn our attention to Aeriador."&nbsp;Finduilen and the others turned to the north and began walking. Although an elf of Faerun, she spent a significant amount of time in the Tel'Uinaen realm of Gelmar and in the Silver elven realm of Aered Bruien. She is a Silvan Green elf of Evermeet due to her reincarnation from the Queen Amlaruil, and she feels a kindred spirit of the Tel'Lasien Elves of the Elder Forest and is a close friend of . Shadowmoon is tall and stands 6'3" barefoot. She has fair skin, emerald-green eyes, and dark hair. Her features are gently sculpted and she has a lithe and graceful form. She appears as a very young elf, similar to a human female in her early 20s.All of the Hierophants of the Cabal carry a powerful staff, often of their own making. Pallando carries the <a href="https://kanka.io/en/campaign/23144/items/245369">Soul Staff</a> and Shadowmoon carries the <a href="https://kanka.io/en/campaign/23144/items/246079">Rainbow Staff</a>. The Rainbow Staff is a powerful, legendary artifact and the symbol of her station as a Hierophant in service to the balance of Aeriador.&nbsp; &nbsp;
